Hotels Inside the Grand Canyon

Five properties in this guide sit inside Grand Canyon National Park, and that is close to the complete list for the South Rim. All five are at Grand Canyon Village, on the rim itself or a short walk back from it. This is the whole inside-park inventory, not a selection from it.

On the rim versus set back

El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, Kachina Lodge and Thunderbird Lodge are along the rim in the historic district. You walk out and the canyon is there. These are the hardest to book.

Maswik Lodge is inside the park but away from the rim, a walk or a shuttle ride from viewpoints. It is usually easier to get and generally costs less, and for most visitors that is a sensible trade. You still avoid the entrance queue and you are still inside the park.

Phantom Ranch is a different thing entirely

Phantom Ranch sits at the bottom of the canyon. There is no road. You reach it on foot or by mule, and beds are allocated by a lottery run well ahead of the stay rather than booked like a room.

It is explained here because travelers come across the name while searching for inside-park lodging and reasonably assume it is another lodge. It is not, and planning a trip around it requires a different kind of preparation.

No review scores, no amenity lists and no rate bands. Our data set covers properties sold through mainstream booking channels, and these are not. Rather than fill the gap with numbers we cannot stand behind, we leave it empty and tell you it is empty.
