Budget and value bands
Eighteen properties in this guide sit in the budget or value bands, and almost all of them are in Williams. That is the whole story of cheap lodging near the Grand Canyon: the saving is real and substantial, and you pay for it with about an hour of driving in each direction. This page sets out that exchange rate honestly.
Reality check
We do not publish prices, because rates near the Grand Canyon swing enormously by season and date. Price bands here indicate relative position from a single snapshot, not what you will pay. Always check the live rate.
There is essentially no budget lodging within ten miles of the park. Tusayan prices reflect its position, and the in-park lodges are not a cheap option either.
Real savings start in Williams, about 53 miles out. The trade is roughly two hours of driving on each day you visit the rim. Over one night that is a poor deal, because it costs you a meaningful share of a short visit. Over three or four nights, the saving compounds while the inconvenience does not.
If you are also willing to take the Grand Canyon Railway, the drive disappears from the calculation entirely, which is what makes the Williams budget options genuinely competitive rather than merely cheaper.

Williams vs TusayanAn hour of driving against lower rates, more choice and a real town. Williams and Tusayan compared for Grand Canyon South Rim visitors.OpenWilliams, about an hour from the South Entrance. The budget band properties there are considerably cheaper than anything in Tusayan or inside the park.
Both have budget supply. Williams is about twenty minutes closer to the park, which usually makes it the better choice for a canyon-focused trip. Flagstaff has more choice overall.
Supply near the park is very limited. Four large hotels in Tusayan and six in-park lodges serve a large share of demand, so rates reflect scarcity of location rather than the room.
