A lodge above the Grand Canyon South Rim at golden hour

Independent Grand Canyon lodging guide

Find the Right Place to Stay at the Grand Canyon

Compare Grand Canyon hotels by real location, drive time, park access and traveler type. Choose where to stay first. Then choose your hotel.

Start with the area, not the hotel

Nearly every difficult decision about Grand Canyon lodging is really a question about geography. How far from the rim are you willing to sleep, and what do you want back in exchange? Pick the area first and the hotel choice becomes straightforward.

Drive times are to the South Entrance Station on AZ-64, excluding queueing at the entrance itself.

Every base, side by side

The single most useful table on this site. There is no best area for everyone, only the right trade for your trip.

Road distance to the South Entrance Station along the standard driving route. Times are typical off-peak estimates and exclude queueing at the entrance station.

Reality check

Only 5 properties in this guide are actually inside Grand Canyon National Park, and all of them are in Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. Everything else, including hotels with Grand Canyon in the name, sits outside the boundary. That is not a criticism of those hotels. It is just the fact that changes your morning.

How this site decides

Where it really is

Every property states its actual town, whether it is inside the park, and how long the drive to the entrance station takes. No vague "near the Grand Canyon".

What you give up

Every area and every property lists the reason to choose something else. A guide that recommends everything recommends nothing.

What we do not know

Where we have no verified figure, we leave the field out and say so, rather than filling the gap with a plausible-sounding number.

Check park conditions before you finalise anything

Road closures, seasonal services and lodging operations change. For park operations the National Park Service is the authority, and where it disagrees with us, it is right.
